Alcoholics Anonymous Australia
Twelve Step Programs are accepted as the most widely practiced treatment model for overcoming alcohol and substance abuse worldwide. The structure contains twelve beliefs or principles designed to support, guide and strengthen the recovery process, and encourage the recovering individual to identify, acknowledge and understand their shortcomings, and accept help from a Higher Power within the prescribed framework.
The spiritually oriented treatment model was originally developed by Alcoholics Anonymous co-founders Bill Wilson and Dr Bob Smith in the late 1930s, as a recovery guide for alcoholism.
The treatment approach has since been adapted widely, and today, the proven formula for recovery is established as an influential, mainstream foundation for recovery from a range of addictive and behavioural disorders.
Consistent with Orpheus treatment philosophy, the 12 Step structure is intended to foster each element of human existence - spiritual, mental and physical, from the perspective that behavioural disorders manifest within each dimension.
The guiding principles outlined in the 12 Step Program are intended as a way of life for recovering individuals. As part of your treatment program, we instil these principles as a solid foundation for Orpheus detoxification and where appropriate, other addiction treatment programs, and as a guiding philosophy to take with you into the future.
