psychotherapy

Prevalent counselling philosophy and powerful recovery mechanism, psychotherapy, assumes that every individual has a profound capacity for personal growth, and a greater degree of control over their future.

Often referred to as 'the talking cure,' individual psychotherapy involves a collaborative, relationship between client and therapist to encourage the communication of inner conflicts, and insight into problems underlying addictive behaviours.

This therapeutic relationship is intended to serve as a trusting, supportive framework for open dialogue, and a personal, professional connection shared by two people. By gaining insight into what drives your behaviour, the therapist develops an intimate understanding of the factors that drive destructive behaviour and provide the necessary tools, comfort and support for personal transformation.

Established psychological techniques are employed according to an individual's personality and issues specific to them, to facilitate the stages of change:

Self-awareness
Your therapist will guide you to look inwards and unlock the unconscious mind, identify feelings and understand internal motives behind your behaviour. By gaining an understanding of what drives your actions, your therapist will encourage increased mental, physical and emotional awareness and give you a better understanding of your strengths and weaknesses.

Acceptance
Together with your therapist, you will confront addictions, and take responsibility for past actions.

Empowerment
Your therapist will challenge your belief system, as you, together, discover healthier ways of meeting your emotional needs and develop new, healthy coping mechanisms with which to manage your actions in the future.

As an integral Orpheus treatment component, frequent psychotherapy sessions serve to examine challenges and opportunities in your life as a source for finding the motivation and inspiration to make lasting, positive change.

Establishing new, healthy behaviours will empower you to restore harmony to interpersonal relationships, achieve increased personal autonomy, and live life to its fullest.
